STARS from TV soap Emmerdale will take to the stage in York to perform at a huge fundraising concert this summer.

The organisers of the York Rocks Against Cancer show have announced that the folk rock group Edna’s Hat, comprising Emmerdale cast members past and present, will be on the bill at the Grand Opera House on June 15.

The band will join a line-up up of York bands in a show which is hoped will bring in thousands of pounds for York Against Cancer.

Organisers have also announced this week that the show will be compered by Emmerdale’s Tony Audenshaw, who plays Bob Hope.

Ian Surgenor, one those behind the show, said: “I am delighted to announce that Edna’s Hat have confirmed they will be playing York Rocks.

“Tony, whom I have known for a while, has also come up trumps by agreeing to compere the evening and get us some great publicity and increase the profile of the event.”

Fellow organiser Graham Bradbury said: “This is one of the major fundraising events of the year for York Against Cancer, with money going towards the newly-aquired respite holiday flat in Whitby.

“The show is for anyone from teens to 90-year-olds. We want everyone to come.”

As well as York Rocks Against Cancer, the charity will benefit from a second musical event aimed at a teen and younger audience, which will take place at the Grand Opera House on May 15.

Down With the Kidz is intended to be a “showcase of local youth talent”.

Event organiser Derek Warley said: “Yorkrocks bandfest has this year joined up with York Rocks Against Cancer for a night of rockin’ down with the kidz.

“Local bands from Burnholme School, York Rock and Pops, York Arts Academy, the Black Hawks, and bands from Harrogate and Malton Schools are joining in for this good cause, supported by a headline band for a night of rock.”
