CLIFFORD’S Tower in York has been illuminated with a stunning art-deco style representation of the world’s fastest steam locomotive, Mallard.
The theatrical projection on Saturday evening was intended to mark the launch of a 75-day countdown by the National Railway Museum to its Mallard 75 celebrations, which will mark the 75th anniversary of Mallard breaking the world speed record for steam.
The Great Gathering of Mallard and her five surviving sister A4 Pacific Class locomotives will take place from July 3 to July 17 around the museum’s Great Hall turntable.
