PEOPLE with diabetes in North Yorkshire are missing out on vital care, according to an advertising campaign that has been launched in York.

According to Diabetes UK there are more than 33,000 diabetics in the county, but only 65 per cent are getting the recommended nine annual health checks.

Linda Wood, regional manager for Diabetes UK Northern and Yorkshire, said: “Everyone is entitled to the care set out in our 15 Healthcare Essentials, but unfortunately we know that too many people in York are not getting it.

“We want to make sure people are aware of the care they should be getting and the averts in surgeries and pharmacies in the city will help raise awareness of this.”
