GREG Dyke, the chancellor of the University of York, is to become the new chairman of the Football Association.
The FA board has unanimously approved the nomination of Mr Dyke, 65, who will succeed David Bernstein when he leaves the post in July.
Mr Dyke took over as chancellor from Dame Janet Baker in 2003. He is the current non-executive chairman of Brentford FC, and has supported Brentford and Manchester United all his life. The appointment is subject to the approval of the FA council.
The FA said in a statement: “Mr Dyke will take over as chairman from David Bernstein when he leaves the post after two-and-a-half years in July – subject to approval by the FA council. The appointment will take effect from Saturday, July 13.”
