NEWCOMER Danny Seal has praised the spirit in the Huntington Stadium camp ahead of his first season with York City Knights.

The 27-year-old former Halifax Super League star followed coach Richard Agar from Featherstone Rovers to York in the closed season, and reckons he has made the right decision.

"All the new lads have bonded really well with the players who were already here," he told the Evening Press.

"They're a great set of lads. A lot of us knew each other before we joined up at York as we'd been at other clubs or from playing against each other, and we get on really well, and that's important."

He added: "Pre-season has gone very well. It's actually gone very quick too. When you first start training it seems like an age until the games start but Richard has had us doing different things and diversifying things and it's gone very fast."

Seal reckons the Knights should aim not just to finish top but to go through the league season undefeated.

"I'm not being big-headed but personally I would like us to go through Division Two unbeaten," he said. "We've got to approach every game aiming to win. It's not going to be easy and we're going to have to work very hard but from what I've seen I'm confident we can do very well."

As for making the move from Division One with Featherstone to Division Two, he said: "I don't see it as a step down but more of a challenge - that's why I came to York.

"I had spoken to the Knights before Richard Agar joined and when he signed that more or less made my mind up. I wanted to come to a club and be successful and I'm confident York can do that and be able to step up and be competitive in Division One."
