Organisers of an archaeology roadshow in York are inviting people to take along their own discoveries to be assessed by experts.
Archaeologist Mick Aston who found fame with TV show Time Team, is taking part in the event, which is kicking off the city’s 28th annual Jorvik Viking Festival.
He will be joined by experts from York Archaeological Trust for two Hidden York events at the Guildhall tomorrow and on Sunday.
Festival organiser Danielle Daglan said: “Archaeology is incredibly exciting. Through the discovery of historic objects we can piece together our own individual histories, as well as the history of the local area, and we’d love budding archaeologists to bring their finds along this weekend and put our team of experts to the test.”
Finds will be plotted on a giant York archaeology map, which will be displayed in the classrooms at DIG, the Jorvik’s archaeological adventure attraction.
Ms Daglan said: “Even if people don’t have finds of their own, they can still come along, meet the experts and handle some of the fascinating finds from the Coppergate and Hungate digs here in York.”
