LOVE is in the air at Dunnington Primary School this autumn.

Pupils from Year 6 and Year 3 have been working together to put on an all-singing, all-dancing version of William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet.

Children spent a fortnight learning about Shakespeare and his work, and showed real enthusiasm for the stories he wrote.

So, when staff were trying to decide on a show to put on, the ever-popular love story seemed the obvious choice.

Since then, Year 6 pupils have been hard at work rehearsing lines and Year 3 youngsters have been busy learning dance routines.

Phil Martinez, a Year 6 teacher who wrote the adapted version of the play, said: "I think the children realise they are performing something special here.

"Of course, our version has a number of funny and unexpected moments in it, but the end scene is particularly moving.

"For children so young they have shown great maturity in their acting to make people laugh and cry in the same show."

The show was performed on Monday to the rest of the school, and parents got to see their children present their show on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
