SCORING ace Matt Gray produced his second three-goal display in as many matches as Acomb men's I claimed their first win in more than a year.

Away at Scunthorpe-based Normanby Park, Ian Roberton put Acomb ahead through a well-taken strike from close range but the home side struck level through a deflected shot.

It had been a dour first half, in which Acomb soaked up a lot of pressure, but Gray came to life in the second with his three goals, crucial saves from goalkeeper Steve Church and solid performances in defence from Paul Kellett, David Bell and Pete Hilton also helped hand Acomb a long-sought after 4-2 win in Yorkshire League division two.

Acomb men's II put out a young side at home to Wakefield 6th's and went in front after Paul Yoward slotted in following a pass from Andy Smith and a textbook move.

Acomb looked to be controlling the game, but the second half proved troublesome and Wakefield found the equaliser - the match ending one apiece as Acomb failed to convert a series of chances to seal the deal.

Bad weather forced the cancellation of Acomb Ladies' I match but Acomb Ladies II did manage to play at home to an under-strength Horsforth 2nd XI.

They will probably have wished they hadn't because, despite starting well, the Tangerines failed to convert their strong attacks into goals.

Horsforth scrambled the opener and took a 1-0 lead into the break, increasing that with a slotted goal in the second period to take a 2-0 victory.

The newly-sponsored Acomb Marcia Grey Mixed XI were at home to Slazengers and ruled the first half - taking a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Dannielle Courtine and Paul Yoward.

Complacency creeped into Acomb's game at the start of the second half and the home side lost their shape. Slazengers capitalised by putting Acomb under some considerable pressure.

Although Acomb had some notable attacks and saw Dan Brown, at the back, and Andy Church, in the middle, putting in good performances, Slazengers broke through on two occasions to leave the scoreline a hard-fought, yet respectable, 3-2.
