Minster funeral for Jamie Inglis

York Press: Jamie Inglis Jamie Inglis

PLANS have been announced for the York Minster funeral of a courageous York school boy.

The service at 10am on February 8 will celebrate the life of seven-year-old Jamie Inglis who passed away after suffering an infection while undergoing treatment for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

Thousands of people from York, North Yorkshire and around the world followed Jamie’s brave fight against cancer and helped to fundraise for his specialist treatment in hospital in Germany.

In recognition of the support given to Jamie, who attended Lord Deramore’s Primary School in Heslington, his parents John and Vicky have said they would like for his funeral to be a public service.

Writing on Facebook, they said: “It will be so lovely to see as many of you as possible at Jamie's service....it will be very moving, beautiful and special....just like Jamie.”

Another comment added: “We would prefer people to come in colourful clothing or if you only have dark or drab clothing then a splash of colour would be fine.

“Children are most welcome but we will leave that to the discretion of parents as we understand that there are different schools of thought on the attendance of children at such events! We know that some of the parents from Jamie's school will be bringing their children so you will not be alone!

“We look forward to seeing you there.”

Jamie will be carried by horse-drawn carriage from his school, Lord Deramore’s in Heslington, to the Minster.

His parents said they hope the service will include some of his favourite songs and artwork.

Jamie passed away with his parents by his side after he became critically ill when he suffered an infection due to his low immune system, which resulted from the treatment. He had been officially clear of cancer.

Mr and Mrs Inglis have appealed to people to continue fundraising in his memory. Donations can be made to Jamie’s Appeal – through Neuroblastoma Alliance – by visiting justgiving.com/jamiesappeal
