ERIC Wood (Honour Edmund, Letters, November 6) is obviously very proud of his heritage.
His surname suggests that one of his male ancestors 50-odd generations ago was an Angle invader from Schleswig-Holstein.
But whether that means we should all celebrate St Edmund's Day is questionable.
I suspect some of my ancestors may have been Norman invaders (who did change the language quite dramatically), Roman invaders, Celtic invaders from Switzerland, invading Beaker Folk from Europe.
I do like my cup of Horlicks at bedtime. And I'm quite sure that some of my earliest ancestors were apes. We're all a bit of a mixture here, thank goodness.
