Young people from the Springboard project go behind the scenes at The Press
A GROUP of young people learnt more about careers in the newspaper industry on a visit to The Press today.
The visitors were taking part in the Springboard programme, a project giving young people an opportunity to experience work-related opportunities and acquire life skills.
Helen Green, of employee volunteering charity York Cares, said the group of ten young people, some from York College, were gaining an insight of the jobs available in York and experience how businesses work behind the scenes.
The group met staff from the newspaper's advertising and editorial departments and discussed routes into the industry and the skills they would need.
"They have been told about the background of the paper, the changes in journalism and the move to online media and they will be compiling their own stories about the visit," said Helen.
York Cares then helps the young people to find work placement opporunities with York employers.
