YOU don’t ask a question when you know you won’t like the answer. This is why York City’s owners never asked the fans, “Do you support the move to a new all-seater stadium at Monks Cross?”

I realise the debate is ended. However, I take exception to the board of the supporters’ trust announcing it backed the move to Huntington. This was a purely executive decision taken without a mandate from the members.

As a then member, I emailed a trust director in March 2012 and asked if we were to be given a voice in the debate. I was told ‘Yes’ but that never materialised and I resigned my membership.

I understood the trust was formed to give supporters a voice, not to endorse without discussion the biggest decision in the club’s history.

I appreciate the difficulties the club is in and the commitment, hard work and financial aid the McGills have given since they took over at Bootham Crescent.

Maybe the move to Monks Cross is the only viable option and most suitable for those lucky enough to enjoy corporate hospitality.

But for those who enjoy a pre-match pint in one of the many pubs close to Bootham Crescent; those who prefer to stand on the terraces; those fans who will find their journey by car, bus and train doubled in many cases – and impossible by bike or on foot? I don’t think so.
