A PROJECT set up to help young adult carers in York has received an additional cash boost.
A windfall of £40,000 has been awarded to the scheme thanks to a grant from the People’s Health Trust, from money raised by HealthLevel through the Health Lottery.
York Carers Centre, a network partner of Carers Trust, the UK’s largest carers charity, had already received £40,000 of funding from money raised through the Health Lottery to extend its work with young adult carers.
This group of carers, aged between 16 and 25-years-old, finds it particularly hard get further education and training, employment opportunities and independence.
Vanessa Emslie, young adult carer worker at York Carers Centre, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have received this extra funding. To know that we can now build on the success that we’ve achieved as a result of the initial funding is great news for the team at York Carers Centre, as well as to the Young Adult Carers that we support through this project.”
