WASHED-UP pop stars, has-been TV presenters and Tony Blair's sister-in-law will join a York-born fashion designer on I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!

Scott Henshall, 30, has created posh frocks for Victoria Beckham, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Paris Hilton and Lady Victoria Hervey. The flamboyant designer was born in York, and brought up at Sheriff Hutton, in Ryedale.

Local councillor Gill Stilwell, who represents Sheriff Hutton on Ryedale District Council said she was not aware of the village's celebrity connection. She said: "I know Sheriff Hutton residents are always highly delighted when people who spent their formative years in the village go on to great things."

Scott will be one of ten "celebrities" to take part in this year's show, which sees luckless contestants challenged to eat jungle grubs, swim with eels and cross ravines on tightropes.

Scott's parents, Mavis and Nigel, lived in Sheriff Hutton during his early childhood. He attended schools in Richmond, first Scorton Grammar School, then the Assumption School. His parents now live in Hartlepool.

Don Pomfret, who edited a history of Sheriff Hutton, said the village's most famous son was Sergeant Major William Sharrow, who fought - and died - alongside General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana, USA.

Scott recently told gay news website Pink News: "Most people in fashion would be disgusted that I'm even doing a reality TV show, but as far as I'm concerned it's as good being in Heat magazine as it is being in Vogue. Most people in the industry I'm in are evil and horrible and I don't even mix with them. That is why I'm doing this kind of show. Because you work in fashion, people sometimes think it's pretentious, it's all glamour, and to an extent it is, but at the end of the day I'm sill a good Northern boy and I'm just doing fashion as my job."

In September 2001, Scott told The Press: "It's always nice to come back to York. It's a great feeling when you come back on the train and walk past York Minster. It's very special to me - my favourite place."

I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! starts at 9pm tonight on ITV1. Coun Stilwell - who admitted she had never watched a single episode of the hit TV show - said: "It will certainly add an interesting element to the programme, and it might be worth tuning in to see how he gets on."

Bookies have put Scott at 12/1 to win the show. He will star alongside Liza Minnelli's ex-husband David Gest, pop star Myleene Klass, former Busted star Matt Willis, the prime minister's sister-in-law Lauren Booth, TV presenter Toby Anstis, comedienne Faith Brown, former newsreader Jan Leeming and Footballers' Wives actress Phina Oruche. Favourite to win, at 2/1, is former Neighbours actor Jason Donovan.
