EDINBURGH exiles in York have brewed their own beer to toast their football team’s success.

The York Hearts Supporters Club teamed up with the North Riding Brew Pub in Scarborough to produce an ale celebrating Heart of Midlothian’s victory over Hibernian in last season’s Scottish Cup final.

The beer has an ABV of 5.1 per cent, matching the scoreline in the cup final, and is called Marooned – reflecting the team’s colours and in honour of fans in York, 200 miles from Edinburgh.

It will be on sale at the club’s Burns Night party in Brigantes in Micklegate on January 25 and some is also being bottled.

Club chairman Ian Warner said: “We thought it would be a nice touch to have a special beer for the event – and it gave us a great opportunity to celebrate the cup win once more!”

Stuart Neilson, owner of the North Riding Brew Pub and a fellow Hearts fan, said: “It has been an honour and a pleasure to brew this beer with York Hearts. I’m really looking forward to trying the beer and I’m sure it will be the perfect accompaniment to some haggis, neeps and tatties.”
