HISTORIC attractions in North Yorkshire are recruiting new volunteers and staff to work at the venues.

The National Trust is looking for people with good communication skills to help out at the Treasurer’s House in York and Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, and will host open days to give anyone interested the chance to find out more.

Lisa Holden, visitor services manager, said there was a variety of roles to be filled at the venues, and anyone applying did not need to be a history buff to take part.

Lisa said: “Volunteering with us can offer people the chance to develop or learn new skills, give something extra to their social life or simply enjoy spending a few hours a week in a fantastic setting.

“As well as the key role of room guides, who help bring the house to life by telling the fascinating stories of the house face to face, we are also looking for volunteers to support with our social media, website and photography, gardening, events, tour guiding and learning programmes.

“This will allow us to capture our history in increasingly diverse ways.”

The recruitment days will be held at Beningbrough Hall on Saturday, and next Thursday, between 11am and 2pm.

Open days will also be held at the Treasurer’s House, located next to York Minster, next Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12, between 11.30am and 2pm.

For more information, or to apply online, go to nationaltrustjobs.org.uk or if you are unable to attend the open days, contact the Treasurer’s House on 01904 624247, or Beningbrough Hall on 01904 472027.

As long as the NT allows criminal fox hunts like the Heythrop, access over their land, they should rely on those same groups to provide their volunteer helpers.
