POLICE are looking to trace two men who are believed to have started a fight on a train after boarding it at York.
A group of passengers had got on the train after a day at York Races on Saturday, October 13, when one of them was approached by a man who tried to grab him by the throat, leading to the brawl breaking out.
Other passengers tried to break up the fight, but another man – not thought to have been involved in the initial fight – was then punched. Both attackers got off the train at Leeds and waited for another train on a different platform. Neither has yet been traced.
PC Kamala Nadkami, investigating for British Transport Police – which has released CCTV images of the two men they are looking to speak to – said: “The train was busy at the time and we believe there may have been many witnesses who saw what happened.”
Anybody with information should phone British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
