University of York's student ‘hub’ plan
8:19am Saturday 29th December 2012 in News
DETAILED plans for 620-bed student accommodation at the University of York have been unveiled.
The rooms will be based around a “social hub” at the university’s Heslington East campus and house students attending a new college, that is still to be named.
The scheme is part of the second phase of work on the huge Heslington East expansion and includes eight buildings and a dean’s flat.
A planning statement said it would be designed along the same lines as the new Goodricke and Langwith Colleges but have its own “distinct character”.
The university has already secured outline permission for the block and has now submitted a “reserved matters” application, which covers details such as the design.
Residents in Badger Hill and other nearby communities have called for more student accommodation on the campus to avoid family homes being converted into student houses.

Most of North Leeds is university slum bedsit land, it's what will happen to the Hull Road side of York and beyond.

Green belt or over a car park again? It will only work if the rent is cheaper than the private sector, but it's also too far from the beckoning bright lights of town.
