A COUNCIL committee has decided that cabinet should not be asked to re-examine plans for the community stadium project.
Couns Ian Gillies, Mark Warters and Dave Taylor had “called in” the cabinet’s decision on the community stadium scheme at Monks Cross, but following a heated meeting this evening, the Corporate and Scrutiny Management Committee decided against asking cabinet to revisit its decisions.
The councillors had questioned a £450,000 rise in the cost of delivering York’s community stadium scheme as well as its agreement to offer GLL – the current operators of Huntington Stadium, Waterworld and Courtney’s gym – a period of reduced rent.
Speaking after the meeting, Coun James Alexander, the leader of the council, said he was glad there would be no added delay to the project.
