A PRIMARY school is spelling out that Ofsted inspectors have graded it good across the board, having found continued improvement and higher attainment at all levels.

The inspectors agreed that the improvement required by Lakeside Primary School in Clifton since the last Ofsted inspection in May 2014 was evident and continuing and that it is now deemed good.

The improvements observed are in maths, a weakness at the last inspection, but now a subject where pupils make increasingly better than expected progress and attainment has been consistent. Other areas of significant improvement include boys’ achievement in writing, while pupils with special educational needs or disability make the same good progress as other pupils.

The inspectors were satisfied with the school’s ambition to improve further: “Senior leaders and governors are not complacent and consider the school’s journey to improve teaching is not finished. They know that refinement to aspects of teaching are required in order to move outcomes towards being the very best.”

The school’s Governing body was also described as a ‘shrewd and formidable group’ which had developed since the last inspection and had become more effective in supporting and challenging the head teacher,

Head Debbie Cousins, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be praised by Ofsted as a Good school. The hard work of the staff, Governors and children at this school has been phenomenal and this outcome shows how far we have leaped in the last two years.

“As a school we work tirelessly to give the best education possible to our children in a fun and inspiring setting and we are proud of our recent academic results. I am delighted that the inspectors saw this for themselves reporting that we allow children to ‘thrive academically, socially and emotionally’.

“I am so proud of everyone, especially the children who, according to the lead inspector were polite, happy and welcoming. She even said that she had never had so many doors opened for her before!”

Cllr Stuart Rawlings, executive member for education at City of York Council, said: “I am not surprised that the school has received a good rating from Ofsted. I visited it only a few weeks ago and was delighted with what I saw. The children were happy and enjoying learning, which is wonderful to see.”

Maxine Squire, the council’s assistant director of education at City of York Council, said: “This is a school committed to continual improvement and which has been recognised as such by Ofsted. I’m delighted for the whole school.”
