CAMPAIGNERS hoping to re-open the York to Beverley railway line have hosted a meeting in York to try to garner support from local authorities.
Minsters Rail Campaign chairman Peter Hemmerman said councils from Hull, York, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Ryedale and Network Rail were all represented.
"We had a frank exchange of views after outlining our position and hopes for the future of the rail line through East Yorkshire," he said.
He believed there had never been a better time to examine the case for increased rail travel in the region but a united front was needed to push for sustainable transport options.
He said East Riding of Yorkshire Council supported the line in principle but had concerns whether the cost would ever be affordable, while representatives of York, North Yorkshire and Ryedale agreed a viable business case needed to be made but said this would have to go through all council leaders and the Local Enterprise Partnerships for funding bids.
