POLICE in North Yorkshire found drugs with a street value of more than £130,000 after watching a man struggle with a huge heavy-looking bag.

Christopher Norton was followed from his parents’ house to his own home nearby when he was seen putting the carrier in his car.

When police searched the property in Brompton, near Northallerton, they found 12kg of cannabis resin in the black Sports Direct bag.

A further stash of 20kg was discovered in a suitcase in a garden shed, prosecutor Rachel Masters told Teesside Crown Court.

Norton, of Corber Hill, admitted possessing Class B Drugs with intent to supply.

Jailing him for 40 months, Judge Simon Bourne-Arton, QC, told Norton: “You became involved to some good measure.”

The court heard how the 34-year-old builder was packaging the drugs into half-kilo deals to pay off debts to his supplier.

His lawyer, Andrew White, said: “He regrets what has happened and accepts full responsibility for what he has done.”

The court heard that Norton had huge amounts going through his bank account, an Audi car and a £1,600 designer watch.

Miss Masters described the dealing as commercial scale and said he had travelled to Bangkok, Delhi, Dubai and Pakistan.

Judge Bourne-Arton told the father-of-three: “This led to you coming into contact with those who supply drugs and getting into debt.

“This is substantial dealing, and you were an integral part of that, packaging up half-kilo blocks.

“I accept you were not the original source, or at the top of the chain, but you were high up.”
