IT seems to me that it has been far too long since we had some of Buxton’s beers in stock - a failing that we have finally, and eagerly, addressed by taking in a range of their latest creations.

One of the more prolific and exciting breed of breweries operating in the UK at present, Nth Cloud is an 8.2 per cent double IPA, positively dripping with Mosaic and Simcoe hops. The idea alone is exciting enough, and in the capable hands of the Buxton team it inevitably exceeds expectations.

Hazy amber, with bright copper highlights, a loose head of magnolia foam towers from the glass. The aroma is both sweet and savoury - strawberries and dried cranberries mingle with pears and apricots, atop a brooding, undulating layer of almost sweaty tropical hops.

Apricot jam and bitter marmalade pounce from the first sip, becoming tempered by toasted cereal and rustic, sweet apple juice as the palate becomes acclimated.

Rounded and full in the mouth, with an almost oily slickness, the finish sees apple sauce, lavender and drying hay mingled with plums and pineapple to create a united front of bright, hazy hops and a strong, bitter backbone.
