DANCE can be interpreted in many ways, from a classically produced ballet to traditional Irish dancing with a contemporary twist, such as Riverdance.

But what happens when folk dances such as clog, sword and Morris are thrown in to a bar room and mixed up with hip-hop moves such as b-boying, popping and krump?

The result is an invigorating, energetic, ambitious and enjoyable hour-and-a-half show of mesmerising moves by the Demon Barber Roadshow, on tour with their latest show, Time Gentlemen Please.

The brainchild of folk singer, musician and dancer Damien Barber, who has brought together a talented cast of dancers and musicians, the initial thought that springs to mind is, “what on earth can this amalgamation of completely conflicting dance styles involve?”.

However, what ensues is a story told through dance of different cultures coming together against the backdrop of an evening in pub, The Fighting Cocks.

Hip-hop dancers Bobak, Laura and Didge are mysteriously invited to dance in this pub they didn’t even know existed. Bobak discovers an old pewter tankard, gives it a rub and things start getting interesting as the locals arrive… The beautifully and cleverly choreographed show shakes up any preconceived ideas of what these dances should entail, and instead creates a style all of its own, with cloggers dancing to b-boy beats and hip hoppers break dancing and body popping to the sound of a folk fiddle.

Move over Stomp – Time Gentlemen Please is definitely worthy of the West End, if not Broadway.
