York Theatre Royal will be a hive of activity on Saturday and Sunday as it hosts the annual Regional Youth Theatre Festival.

Eight Yorkshire youth theatres will join the Theatre Royal’s youth wing for an weekend when 160 young people will perform new pieces of theatre and take part in a wide range of workshops.

Also, 28 young people, aged between ten and 25, will assist over the weekend.

Known as RTYF Buddies, they are a mixture of youth theatre assistants, volunteers and forum members from York Theatre Royal.

They will help with workshops and front-of-house duties, and lead warm-up sessions and hosting the launch and end events.

Youth theatre director Kate Plumb said: “We are really excited to be hosting this event and welcoming young people from all over Yorkshire to participate in workshops such as stage combat, poetry writing and flash-mob sessions.”
