THEATRE Mill's Frankenstein Revelations at the York Medical Society will not be the only Frankenstein production opening in North Yorkshire tonight.

Blackeyed Theatre's new touring show will be visiting Harrogate Theatre for 7.30pm performances tonight until Saturday plus a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.

Adapted by John Ginman from Mary Shelley's Gothic horror story, Eliot Giuralarocca's production fuses ensemble storytelling, live music and "stunning theatricality" in a show made by the same artistic team behind 2013's Dracula show.

"Frankenstein promises a fresh, exciting take on what is widely considered to be a landmark work of romantic, gothic and science-fiction literature." says Giuralarocca, who has worked alongside composer Ron McAllister, musical director Ellie Verkerk, designer Victoria Spearing and puppet designer Yvonne Stone. Tickets can be booked on 01423 502116 or at harrogatetheatre.co.uk

Whereas Blackeyed Theatre will be in Harrogate for only three days, Theatre Mill's Frankenstein Revelations will run from tonight until February 25 in a site-specific production at York Medical Society, whose lecture hall in Stonegate will play host to a theatre production for the first time.

Nick Lane has written a claustrophobic, scary, intense three-hander suited to that space. In his version, set in Ingolstadt in 1866, the city is torn apart by Prussian cannon fire. A lone figure staggers through the ruins of the once proud university; screaming at the top of his lungs, he collapses at the feet of an ambitious physician, Dr Gerber and a skittish nurse, Agatha.

His name is Victor Frankenstein, and while the world outside burns, Dr Frankenstein tells his two new companions the most incredible story they have ever heard. Did he truly defy God and create life? Or is Frankenstein hiding an even more deadly secret?

Richard Keightley will play Frankenstein, tripping on hallucinogenic stimulants and painkillers, and spinning around him, Zach Lee and Viktoria Kay will play everyone else.

Tickets for Theatre Mill's 7.30pm evening shows and 2.30pm Thursday and Saturday matinees are on sale on 01904 623568 or yorktheatreroyal.co.uk.
