YORK Musical Theatre Company have found their Annie at the double for next spring's production of Annie.

More than 120 girls from all over the region auditioned for the parts of Annie and her gang of orphan girls, such as Molly, Pepper and Duffy, last Sunday at Manor CE Academy in York.

After a tough day of dancing, singing and acting, the company announced the two Annies to lead the two teams of girls that will share the performances from March 21 to 25 2017. The lead role goes to Kaia Stainton, aged 11, from Wigginton Primary School and Agatha Meehan, aged nine, from St George’s RC Primary School.

Adult auditions will follow in November. "Then it's down to the hard work with music and dance rehearsals in the lead-up to the show," says press officer and regular company member Anna Mitchelson.

Set in 1930s' New York, Martin Charnin and Thomas Meehan's heart-warming American musical follows the topsy-turvy progress of brave young orphan Annie, who tries to escape the grip of the nasty Miss Hannigan and is taken under the wing of billionaire benefactor Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks.

The YMTC production will be directed by Paul Laidlaw, with choreography by Nic Jenkins and musical direction by Ben Papworth, in a show featuring the songs It's The Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and Tomorrow.
