YORK Light Youth are looking for performers aged 11 and over to take part in its spring production of Honk! , along with seven to 11 year olds for the junior roles of ducklings.
This musical comedy is a re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen's Ugly Duckling story, reinterpreted as a more adult version by composer George Stiles and lyricist and book writer Anthony Drewe that incorporates the modern message of tolerance.
The original production of Honk! opened in 1997 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, in Scarborough, directed by Julia McKenzie, and the show went on to win the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2000.
The York Light Youth show, the follow-up to last November's Les Miserables, will run at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, from May 27 to 30. Director John Hall and musical director Michael Thompson will be holding auditions at Lidgett Grove Methodist Church on Saturday and on February 7; application forms and further details are available by emailing yorklightyouth@yorklight.com
