TYLER Smith, a 17-year-old performing arts student at York College, has written a specially commissioned song for the Stephen Joseph Theatre's Christmas family show in Scarborough.
His composition, Full Moon Of The Full Moons, can be heard in artistic director Chris Monks's production of Aladdin, set in Kashgar, East Turkestan.
"Tyler was in my 2009 show, A Christmas Carol, and is part of the Scarborough music scene, which has really developed," says Chris.
"I wanted to reflect this in the show, so we sent out a message looking for a song, first sending out a lyric from the Yorkshire song in this summer's Cox & Box – Mrs Bouncer's Legacy show, and Tyler did a setting of it that was terrific.
"Then Andrew [the show's writer Andrew Pollard] and I sent him another set of lyrics for a love ballad that we've used in the trailer and now it features in the show, as sung by Arabella Rodrigo's Princess Badroulbadoour, whose name means Full Moon of the Full Moons, and Jay Saighal's Aladdin."
Aladdin runs at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, until January 3. Box office: 01723 370541 or sjt.uk.com
