SCIENCE can be a bit dull, admit it - theories, lots of long numbers and boffins in white coats scratching their heads. But it doesn’t have to be, as this great show produced by the Science Museum proved.

Aimed mainly for schoolchildren, this show puts the crash, bang and wallop back into science.

There’s nothing that kids like more than lots of explosions and very loud bangs and this show had plenty of them - although being a big kid myself I would preferred even more fiery explosions.

The play centres on failed science students Annabella (Jen Holt) and Star Wars-mad Phil ( Emma MacLennan) who have been sent to an old laboratory in part of their college so they can can give a presentation on the nine forms of energy. Nine, yes I struggled to name them all.

The students are helped by lab assistant Bernard (who doesn’t speak!) and a virtual scientist I-nstein, who explains to the audience just what is going on in each experiment.

Highlights included setting fire to methane bubbles, popping hydrogen balloons and freezing flowers with liquid nitrogen.

The breathtaking finale involved Phil and Annabella demonstrating all forms of energy in under five minutes.

The Energy Show is a fusion of fun, facts and flames... it really is a blast.
