Despite sporting a green hue, bad boy of Strictly Come Dancing Brendan Cole successfully brought the sex and sophistication of James Bond to the Barbican through the art of dance.

The Kiwi was accompanied by his Russian leading lady, fellow Strictly star, Aliona Vilani. Whiletwo other couples, one which included Brendan’s irrepressible older brother, proved just as captivating as the star pair.

Although Brendon admitted he was not feeling his best, his energy defied his greenish pallor.

Right from the tap of a Cuban heel on the first beat of Boogie Wonderland, the audience was thrown into a sequence of every dance from the Samba to the American Smooth and the Quick Step to the Tango.

While the show began with a lively start, there were also plenty of opportunities for the stars to “suit and boot” for ballroom, and we were treated to some enchanting waltzes and one very special American Smooth, which Brendan had choreographed to commemorate the birth of his first child, Aurelia.

During the show’s interval, the audience were given the opportunity to write down questions for Brendan.

Somewhat predictably, few held back, with requests for trouser measurements, on-the-spot dance lessons and even kisses on the cheek – all were granted.

Yet needless to say, Brendon remained silent on the question of Brucie’s retirement date.

Backed by a fantastic band and two incredibly versatile vocalists, Licence To Thrill remained on top form even if the star’s health was not.

Well, James Bond can’t just call in sick.
