British singer John Newman has vowed to keep making music as he confirmed his brain tumour has returned.

The star who debuted with Love Me Again three years ago did not disclose any details about treatment but said in a statement he considered himself “one of the lucky ones”.

He said: “This was going to come out at some point and it’s probably best it’s out in the open now.

“I have been monitored constantly since the first time I had the tumour removed. There was always a chance that it could return and it is unfortunate but it is something I am prepared to get through when the time is right, some point next year.

“The medical staff have been absolutely amazing and I know I am in the best of hands. Nothing will ever stop me from doing the job I love so much, nothing will ever stop me from making music.

“People shouldn’t worry about me, the prognosis is good and there are so many people in far more serious situations.

“I just hope this in some way helps raise awareness for those people and encourages people to be tested and treated as early as possible. I am one of the lucky ones!”

The 26-year-old from North Yorkshire rose to fame when he featured on the 2012 hits Not Giving In and Feel The Love from drum and bass band Rudimental.

At the same time as Feel The Love was rising up the charts, Newman was recovering in hospital after surgery for a non-cancerous brain tumour.

In an interview with the Evening Standard he said: “I started going blind. But being Northern, I just thought, ‘I’m fine, I’ll just need some glasses’.

He was diagnosed with the tumour after being referred to a neurosurgeon, and while recovering from surgery he heard his first music hit on the radio.

“My girlfriend at the time put the radio on and Zane Lowe played Feel The Love, which I had totally forgotten about because I had so much on,” he said in the same interview.

“I burst out laughing and said, ‘This is ridiculous’. It was perfect timing.”

He released his debut single, Love Me Again, in 2013. The song went on to top the UK Singles Chart and cemented his place as a solo artist, writer and producer on the UK music scene.

Newman has frequently collaborated with DJ and producer Calvin Harris, most recently on the song Ole, which many speculated was about Harris’s split from Taylor Swift.

The Sun reported the news first, saying he may have to undergo surgery next year, but this has not been confirmed.
