Wrapping: If it wasn’t for the hint of Christmas tree lights in the background – with Sara looking wistful in the foreground – you’d never know this was a Christmas album. Apart from the title, of course.
Style: Melodic country music, bringing a tinge of Tennessee to Yuletide.
Content: Ten songs, all either Christmas or religious staples, with the exception of the title track.
'Tis the reason to be jolly: The warmth and richness of Evans’ voice suits the holiday atmosphere, and she strikes a decent balance between tradition and contemporary.
Scrooge moan: There’s nothing startling about Evans’ renditions of these songs, although you could say that about a lot of artists’ festive album excursions.
White Christmas? Absent. As four of the songs end with the word ‘Christmas’, maybe another would have been deemed overkill.
Blue Christmas? Not likely. This is an upbeat mix of ballads and jauntier tunes, and Evans even teams up with her daughters on The Twelve Days Of Christmas.
Stocking or shocking? Buy this for the relative who can’t wait for the next series of Nashville to kick off.
