IN HIS enjoyable autobiography, Rod Stewart addresses claims that arena venues are soulless caverns by stating that it isn’t the venues that are lacking but the quality of some of the acts.

There is no doubt that Rod Stewart is an accomplished arena act, as anyone lucky enough to see Stewart play in Leeds recently will testify. This reasonably priced four-disc set handsomely curates a truly cherished national treasure over a 22-year period, which covers both his commercial peaks, and the more fallow 1980s. But throughout live on stage Stewart has always been an icon of magnificence.

All the mega hits, and most of the lesser hits are included in this 58-track feast. Archivists will mostly be thrilled will the inclusion of his covers of It’s All Over Now, Layla, Hungry Heart and the collaboration with Tina Turner, Hot Legs. For those who prefer the ballads, Rod plays a blinding version of (If Loving You is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right.
