HIGH unemployment, the resurgence of left-wing comedy and a flailing British government… yes, here comes the return of Scottish hip-funkateers Hue And Cry.
Brothers Pat and Greg Kane released new album Hot Wire in March, their first studio set since 2008’s comeback record Open Soul, although they did serve up a Christmas collection, Xmasday, in 2009.
This time they combine a love of Steely Dan and the solo work of Becker and Fagan with a sprawling template shaped around Stevie Wonder, Sly And The Family Stone and early New Orleans-inspired funk.
As Scottish as crude oil and football management excellence, Hue And Cry first leapt to prominence in 1987 with their number six hit Labour Of Love in 1987, lifted from the album Seduced And Abandoned.
Pat and Greg will perform in stripped-down mode – piano and vocals – at The Duchess next Friday at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18 on 0844 477 1000 or £20 on the door.
