LYNDA Beast will be unleashed on an unsuspecting Ryedale public tomorrow.

One of the many anagram alter-egos of Stanley Bad, also known as Dylan (Bomber) Bates, Lynda is the superstar violinist with Billy Jenkins and The Blues Collective.

Previous North Yorkshire sightings of this particular Beast include the official Yorkshire Day celebrations in 2009, hosted by Ryedale District Council at the Worsley Arms in Hovingham, where Lynda/Dylan/Stanley entertained the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, by posing as Zoltan, a fiddle-playing Hungarian work-experience waiter.

Inspired by the numerous, and hotly debated, big cat sightings in Ryedale, The Shed impresario Simon Thackray has captured Stanley’s drag act alter-ego, Lynda, and will let her loose to prowl the streets in all four Ryedale market towns tomorrow, Lynda will perform for free in Malton at 10.30am, Pickering at noon, Kirkbymoorside, 1pm, and Helmsley, 2.15pm.

“Don’t miss this unique opportunity to catch sight of the beast roaming inconspicuously in Ryedale,” says Simon. “Please note: Lynda’s violin is strung with nylon strings, not cat gut.”

After four shows each by folk fab four Kan and jazz pianist and singer Liane Carroll, The Shed On Tour season will continue with the return of Mrs Boyes’ Bingo from March 21 to 24, when legendary Malton bingo caller Eileen Boyes will conduct a standard game of prize bingo to the accompaniment of drumming and percussion disruption by improvisational musician Mark Sanders.

To add to the improv fun, each night will feature a special guest: tuba player Oren Marshall at Crayke Sports Hall on Wednesday; double bass player John Edwards at Weaverthorpe Village Hall on Thursday; and trombonist Alan Tomlinson at Sessay Village Hall, next Friday, and Brawby Village Hall, next Saturday. Eyes down for a full each night from 8pm.

In between his two bingo nights, Alan Tomlinson will clamber back into the River Seven to reprise his Shed duet with and in the water at Dale Head Farm, Rosedale, in a free event at noon next Saturday. Directions to the beyond beyond the back of beyond can be found at theshed.co.uk/river-seven “We’ve been asked to do Alan’s river gig again for a new documentary about British improvised music, narrated by comedian Stewart Lee,” says Simon.

“The director and crew from Germany and Luxembourg will film Alan in Rosedale and then travel down the valley to film Mrs Boyes’ Bingo featuring Mark Sanders in Brawby.”
