FOLK legend Joan Baez will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell when she performs songs from a repertoire spanning five decades at York Barbican on Sunday night.

Please note there will be no support act and no interval at this 7.30pm concert, for which there is “limited availability” of tickets, priced £39.50, on 0844 854 2757.

Since she began her legendary residency at Boston’s Club 47 and her debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, Baez has remained a musical force of nature, whether marching on the front line of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, singing on the first Amnesty International tour, or standing alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London’s Hyde Park.

The American folk musician is playing York as part of a 21-date tour in February and March and will be completing a hat-trick of Barbican shows, having performed there in 1996 and 2004.
