They may be just six boys from Delaware, USA, but The Spinto Band were welcomed as fully-formed rock gods at Fibbers.

After abandoning an April 12 gig at York's hottest venue (in both senses), the kids of York and its environs were worked up like a taut spring for their return show on Monday night.

Local legends AKP kicked off the night with tracks from their new album, The Blast Apex, mixing epic, intricately-worked guitar with lead singer Alex King's imploring croon, resulting in a sound not dissimilar to mid-nineties indie-kids Mansun.

Baroque three-piece The Sugars brought a touch of class to proceedings, with lead singer Anna Greenaway's sultry voice hitting all the right notes.

The Spinto Band don't perform on stage as such, they utterly fill it.

Firstly, there are six of them to contend with: two singers, two guitarists, a bassist, a man on synths, and a drummer.

And then there's the fact that they refuse to stand still, jerking around all over the shop.

With influences as diverse as Burt Bacharach and Public Enemy, you might be forgiven for thinking their sound is all over the place as well - but it's nothing of the sort.

There are obvious Beach Boys references with the harmony intros between singers, and The Strokes come to mind too. But not in the tedious, repetitive way they do with most new bands.

Spinto, pictured below, are original, uplifting, and seem thoroughly pleased with themselves to be up on stage entertaining the masses.

And they even brought a kazoo out for their finale.
