Final preparations for this weekend’s Coastival arts event are under way with thousands of people expected to flock to Scarborough.

Tickets are selling well and organisers say they cannot wait for Coastival to begin tomorrow evening.

More than 100 events are planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with many of them free. These include music, comedy, theatre, arts, performance and activities for children.

Coastival organiser Wendy Clews says: “The stage is set, the planning is over and it’s time for the Coastival II curtain to rise. We have a fantastic line-up of entertainment ahead this weekend and Coastival-goers are in for a brilliant time!”

Coastival will begin with a lantern parade, complete with giant dinosaurs, leading from Valley Road to the Spa tomorrow afternoon from 4.30pm.

This will be followed by a concert by Scarborough’s Finest at the Spa Theatre at 6.30pm, then later in the evening Coastival’s headline band, Levellers, play at the Ocean Room at 8pm.

The line-up over the weekend will include comedy with Count Arthur Strong, Shappi Khorsandi and Jon Richardson; jazz musician Claire Martin; world music by 17Hippies; and an array of other attractions, events, performances and installations, as well as events for children in Rollercoastival.

An Essential Guide, giving full details of all the acts, events and attractions, is on sale for £2 or £1 when bought with tickets online. The guide is available from Scarborough Library, the Tourist Information Centres, Woodend Creative Industries Centre, Scarborough Arts Gallery, The Rotunda and MOJO’s music café.
