Legendary blues guitarist Steve Phillips plays The Basement at City Screen, York, tonight in a rare opportunity to catch him with his full band The Rough Diamonds.
When Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler was putting together his Notting Hillbillies in the 1990s, his first choice for guitarist was Phillips, a long-time friend and onetime fellow musician on the Yorkshire scene.
Phillips continues to tease every last nuance from his six and 12-string guitars, whether acoustic or amplified, as can be heard at 8pm tonight. Tickets cost £7 in advance on 0871 704 2054 or www.picturehouses.co.uk or £8 on the door. Admission is restricted to 16-plus.
