PIANIST Tom Poster gives the first British Music Society of York recital of 2010 at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, University of York, on January 15 at 8pm.

“Tom is making a welcome return to our chamber music series after his virtuoso performance, in a recital with Alison Balsom last season, left the audience wanting more,” says publicist Mary Ormston.

Tom was awarded first prize at the 2007 Scottish International Piano Competition, and his past triumphs include winning the keyboard section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and Royal Over-Seas League competitions in 2000. He broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio 3 and is a composer too.

His BMS programme comprises Mozart’s Sonata in E flat; Bartok’s Improvisations on Hungarian Peasant Songs; Two Songs, Widmung and Fruhlingsnacht, by Schumann/Liszt; Stravinsky’s La Semaine Grasse, from Petroushka; and Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor and Sonata in B minor.

Tickets cost £13, students £5, on 01347 878032, online at bms-york.org.uk or on the door.
