HEROES old and new took to the stage in a weekend packed full of star quality for this year’s Leeds Festival.

With one of the strongest line-ups of any festival, the tens of thousands of music lovers were spoiled for choice, and often pulled in more than one direction over which act to catch at which stage.

For example, on Saturday night should they go for legends Radiohead, who brought an amazing lightshow to complement lead singer Thom Yorke’s haunting melodies, catch rising pop sensation La Roux or the sheer energy of rocker The Lost Prophets, all on at the same time (not forgetting impressive dance act Deadmau5)?

But that was the kind of dilemma festival-goers faced all weekend.

One choice which really paid off was for those who chose to see rap act Lethal Bizzle.

In an energy packed set, which included inspired covers of House of Pain’s Jump Around and Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, the Bizzle whipped the crowd into a frenzy and walked off to richly-deserved raucous cheers.

From the old guard two highlights stood out over the weekend – firstly The Prodigy who were simply undeniable, when they performed Out Of Space it was impossible to stand still; and ex-Stone Roses front man Ian Brown, bless him, who gleefully performed his solo material and band classics, without actually hitting a note in tune.

But with Ian, as always, it’s not a case of the singing but the performance, which was a belter.
