One of the foremost choirs from Wales will make its first visit to York tomorrow for a 7.30pm concert in the Minster.

Côr Meibion De Cymru – the South Wales Male Choir – is sending nearly 100 singers north to present Sounds Of Wales, fresh from a tour of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Québec City in eastern Canada.

The choir will be led by musical director Elaine Robins and accompanied by pianist Siân Davies, while Terry Gilmore-James will bring the Minster’s organ to life and will duet with Siân. The youngest member, tenor Peter Totterdale, will sing a selection of items. He has travelled around the world with the choir, singing solos in the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall and New York.

Bethany Seymour, who sings with the Yorkshire Bach Choir, will add her voice to tomorrow’s concert. York-born Bethany will sing a varied programme that will include Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro.

Young singers from the Stagecoach North East Regional Choir will perform songs from Sister Act and Michael Jackson hits, under the leadership of Helen Leaf.
