BOYZONE will play the York Racecourse Music Showcase Weekend on July 28 as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.

The Irish "boy band" from Dublin are the second act to be confirmed for the 2018 season at the Knavesemire course after Paloma Faith was announced for the Summer Music Saturday on June 30. A third act will perform after racing on the evening of July 27.

Band member Shane Lynch is looking forward to returning to York after leading the York Barbican pantomime cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood And The Babes In The Wood last December. "I can’t wait to be back in York; being back together promises to be great fun," he says. "We’ve always loved outdoor shows and can’t wait to make some more memories with our fans."

Boyzone played Scarborough Open Air Theatre two years running, in July 2014 and June 2015, and earlier performed at Castle Howard in July 2008.

Lynch, 41, who appeared in the 2018 series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, will be singing alongside Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy and Mikey Graham at York Racecourse. Fans can expect to hear such hits as No Matter What, Words, Picture Of You, Baby Can I Hold You, Love Me For A Reason, A Different Beat, All That I Need, When The Going Gets Tough, Father And Son and You Needed Me.

Boyzone have sold 13 million records and won four Brit Awards since their debut appearance on The Late Late Show in Ireland in 1993. Lynch indicated in his interview with The Press last year that the 25th anniversary would be marked with a new album.

Boyzone will perform after a seven-race card with tickets covering the racing and the concert; bookings can be made at yorkracecourseco.uk or on 01904 620911. Please note, admission is not available on a "concert only" basis; the gates will be closed at the time of the last race.

James Brennan, head of marketing and sponsorship at York Racecourse, says: "Everyone at the course is really excited that Boyzone have chosen York to help mark their anniversary. Add in the spectacle of the racing itself and we hope it will prove a summer day to savour."
