TOM Robinson will mark the 40th anniversary of his top five debut single 2-4-6-8 Motorway by performing the Tom Robinson Band's first album, Power In The Darkness, in its entirety on an autumn tour. Among the 15 dates will be The Crescent Community Venue in York on October 18.

The tour also will take Robinson back at London's legendary 100 Club for a three-night residency with his touring line-up of Faithless drummer Andy Treacey, Richard Ashcroft guitarist Adam Phillips and keyboard player Jim Simmons, accompanying Robinson's bass and lead vocals.

Born in Cambridge in 1950, Robinson made his mark in the 1970s as a forthright musician and LGBT activist with the Tom Robinson Band (TRB), who were early supporters of Rock Against Racism and Amnesty International. In 1977, 2-4-6-8 Motorway became one of the landmark singles of the British punk era; Glad To Be Gay and Up Against The Wall stood out too and the Power In The Darkness album went gold in the UK and Japan.

As a solo artist, Robinson enjoyed success in 1983 with War Baby and Atmospherics: Listen To The Radio and he co-wrote songs with Peter Gabriel, Elton John and Dan Hartman. His 14th studio album, Only The Now, was released in 2015 with guest contributions from Billy Bragg, John Grant and actor Sir Ian McKellen.

Robinson hosts three shows a week on BBC Radio 6Music, is a member of the Ivor Novello Awards committee and was awarded a fellowship of LIPA in 2016 in recognition of his support for new music artists through BBC Introducing.
