PIONEERING English folk trio Faustus play the National Centre for Early Music in York tonight (April 10) in support of their new EP, Slaves.

In the line-up are Paul Sartin, from Bellowhead and Belshazzar’s Feast, Benji Kirkpatrick, from Bellowhead and the Seth Lakeman Band, and Saul Rose, from Waterson: Carthy, Whapeazel and War Horse.

During 2016, Faustus were artists in residence at Halsway Manor, the National Centre for Folk Arts in Somerset, where they had access to the  extensive library, and it was there that they recorded their album Death And Other Animals, winner of the Folk/Singer-Songwriter/World Music category in the German Critics Awards (Schallplatenkritik Bestenliste).

The Slaves EP follows on, a mix of live and recorded tracks: title track with its old but still relevant words; Thresherman's ancient ode to the rural poor; One More Day's celebration of the joy and the challenges of working life and two brand new waltzes.

Tickets for tonight's 7.30pm concert are on sale at £16, concessions £14, on 01904 658338, at ncem.co.uk and on the door.
