BLISTERING Sheffield guitar trio Blood Sport showcase their new album, Axe Laid To The Root, in a Please Please You triple bill at The Fulford Arms, York, on Thursday.

Formed in South Yorkshire in 2010, the band emerged from the Steel City's industrious art/music community and have since issued three EPs and a debut LP, 2013's Life In Units, all on DIY labels: Tye Die Tapes, the band’s own Hybrid Vigour Records and via The Audacious Art Experiment, the record-release wing of the independent arts hub they co-run in Sheffield.

Building on a background of playing squats, raves, art happenings and clubs, Blood Sport's Nick Potter, Alex Keegan and Sam Parkin have increasingly sequenced their live set for the dancefloor with a wall of noise and rhythm delivered with ferocious intensity.

Support on Thursday's 7.30pm bill, put together by Please Please You's Joe Coates, comes from Current Affairs and Neuschlaufen. Tickets cost £4 from The Inkwell, in Gillygate, York, and Jumbo Records, St John's Centre, Leeds, or online at pleasepleaseyou.com or £5 on the door.
