DODGY, the re-charged power pop group from Hounslow, are to release their new album, What Are We Fighting For, through Cherry Red on September 2.

They will play the record in full for the first time on June 1 at The Convent near Stroud, from where the show will be broadcast live on the internet around the world and also will mark the 20th anniversary of Dodgy's double platinum-selling album, Free Peace Sweet. What Are We Fighting For is the fifth album from the original Dodgy line-up of Nigel Clark, Mathew Priest and Andy Miller and their set first of new material since their reunion for 2012's Stand Upright In A Cool Place.

Joining the trio on the recordings for the first time is relatively new member Stu Thoy, on bass and vibes, having "helped them tour the last album and managing to hang on in there ever since".

Self-produced and mixed in Worcestershire, the ten-track album is Dodgy's first for Cherry Red and was produced by Clark with additional production from the band. Its songs bear the influence of July, Harmonium and Can and Clark's new-found love of such bands as Atlas Sound and White Fence.

What Are We Fighting For also features Ultrasound's Vanessa Wilson on four tracks. Dodgy have known Vanessa for a good few years and indeed Priest and Miller were once in a Northern Soul band with her called The Soulwinners. The title track and You Give Drugs A Bad Name, in particular, have benefited from her input.

On the live circuit this summer, Dodgy's appearances include Dronfest in Sheffield on August 6; a full tour will follow in the autumn. In the meantime, Are You The One will be issued as the first single off the upcoming album on July 15.
