THE Grand Opera House in York will turn into a Rock'n'Roll Paradise on Friday for a ride through the music of the 1950s and 1960s, presented by Lord Tim Croxford of Accelerator Entertainments.

Peter Gill will take the role of Jerry Lee Lewis for Great Balls Of Fire and Breathless; John-Simon Rawling will be on compere duty in the guise of J P Richardson, alias The Big Bopper, combining banter with versions of Chantilly Lace and Hello Baby.

Lars Young will soar through Roy Orbison's Only The Lonely and Pretty Woman; Gavin Stanley will handle Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues, Three Steps To Heaven and C'mon Everybody; Spencer Jordan will don glasses for Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and That'll Be The Day.

The second half will open with a concert within a concert, as Richard Atkins takes the audience through Elvis Presley's later-period shows, complete with Las Vegas jump-suits, belts and rings.

To finish the 7.30pm show, Rock'n'Roll Paradise will bring together Holly, Cochran, The Big O, The Big Bopper, Lewis and Presley, surely the ultimate A list of all concert line-ups, accompanied by The Paradise Band, whose members have played with Helen Shapiro, Suzy Quatro, The Bee Gees, Cockney Rebel, Wet Wet Wet, Marty Wilde and The Cavaliers.
