DAVID Gest, American music producer and sometime York resident, is bringing his latest soul revue to the York Barbican on July 1.

This time he is calling the show David Gest Is Not Dead But Alive With Soul! and the man in the long black coat will be introducing an 8pm bill topped by Dina Carroll, best known for her hits The Perfect Year, Escaping, Don’t Be A Stranger, Ain’t No Man, It’s Too Late and Express.

Making a return to the Barbican will be Russell Thompkins Jr, the original singer of The Stylistics, to perform such favourites as I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love), You Make Me Feel Brand New, I’m Stone In Love With You, Can't Help Falling In Love and Betcha By Golly Wow.

Returning too will be Deniece Williams, of Free, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and Too Much, Too Little, Too Late fame; Billy Paul, forever synonymous with Me And Mrs Jones, Let 'Em In and Let’s Make A Baby; The Tymes, whose chart days were built around Ms Grace, You Little Trustmaker and So Much In Love, and Freda Payne, who struck gold with Band Of Gold.

Host David Gest also will present Peabo Bryson, performing Beauty And The Beast, A Whole New World and Tonight I Celebrate My Love; Melba Moore singing This Is It; Anita Ward, Ring My Bell; Fern Kinney, Together We Are Beautiful, and very special guest star Rose Royce featuring Gwen Dickey. Expect to hear Car Wash, Love Don’t Live Here Anymore and Wishing On A Star.

Tickets start at £34 with a VIP Meet and Greet package at £106.40, which will include autographs and photographs with all the stars before the show.
